I was born in Georgetown Guyana, which is the only English-speaking country in South America. My grandmother, mother and aunt all loved to cook and I always found myself in the kitchen with them as their assistant. At the age of 8, I baked my first cake. After leaving high school I worked at the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown as a Prep Cook until I started a small catering service from my home two years later.
In 1989 I moved to Queens, New York with my family. While looking to restart my culinary career in New York I work as a Greyhound bus driver, airport shuttle driver, bellman and front desk agent at the Holiday Inn J.F.K. I worked my way up to a Front Office Manager at Holiday Company. I did return to the culinary world once more when I opened another small catering service in Brooklyn, New York in 1998.
In 2003 as my 40th birthday loomed on the horizon I enrolled in culinary school at the Connecticut Culinary Institute Hartford CT in the Culinary Arts Program. After graduation in 2004 I stayed in Hartford and became the Chef at Dishes Restaurant for 2 years. In 2007 I moved to Los Angeles and had the pleasure of working as a personal chef for actress CCH Pounder and Lakers player Trevor Ariza, among others. In my journey through the culinary world I have specialized in the art of cooking West Indian, Indian, Chinese, Southern, and Raw Vegetable dishes.
In August of 2007 I was approached by renown comedian J. Anthony Brown to join the J. Spot Comedy Club team which he was forming at the time. Mr. Brown’s vision was to have a comedy club which would set it apart from most comedy clubs because it would have a full service restaurant. It would be my responsibility as head Chef to create a menu that would reflect his southern roots. I was honored to be part of this project. I joined the J. Spot Comedy Club team in August of 2007 while the club was still in the construction stage.
I am fortunate have had the opportunity to work with Mr. Brown and his team for the last 4 years.
